David F Skanchy, MD

Dr. Skanchy was born in Philadelphia, PA and raised in Salt Lake City, UT. He attended Brigham Young University on a full academic scholarship and graduated summa cum laude. He received his medical doctorate from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston where he was awarded the Dean’s Competitive Scholarship all four years and inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society. 

He completed his ophthalmology residency and pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus fellowship at the prestigious Kellogg Eye Center at the University of Michigan, where he served as chief resident.

Dr. Skanchy has a passion for medical education. As a clinical instructor at the University of Michigan he trained numerous residents in cataract surgery, pediatric ophthalmology, adult strabismus, and ocular trauma. He has volunteered with charities in Mexico, Navajo Nation, Texas, and Michigan to provide eye care to underprivileged patients. He enjoys teaching medical trainees and has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. 

Dr. Skanchy treats all pediatric eye disorders and adults with strabismus (misaligned eyes). He is highly experienced in the treatment of complex adult strabismus and childhood strabismus, amblyopia, trauma, cataracts, and retinopathy of prematurity.
